What to do on your ATL Layover

SUGGESTIONS FOR YOUR ATL LAYOVER

We are creating a series of “things to do” at all major international airports.  This is to help you use your layover as wisely as possible.  We can’t always help that we are held up at the airport but we want to help you take advantage of your downtime and use it to help you maintain your healthy routine while traveling. We have put together some suggestions for your Atlanta layover.


1 hour

Stretch and relax.

Find a quiet spot at the airport, go to the Sanctifly app and enjoy some yoga stretches with out fitness coach, Sara. Take advantage of the airport’s free wi-fi and stretch and relax while you wait for your flight.  Under your wi-fi settings Search for “ATL free WiFi wireless network” and fill in the required information.

TOP TIP

Unfortunately Atlanta airport does not have luggage storage facilities. Bagil, which is located 10 miles (16 km) from the airport provide luggage storage facilities for people looking to explore the city. Call the number on their website or click here for directions to the facility.


2-3 hours

Go for a jog.

The Adams Recreation Centre is a great place to relax, go for a jog or workout before a flight. The centre is surrounded by an outdoor running trail and a lake. The facilities are just a 6.8-mile car journey from the airport.

Explore the park.

Piedmont Park is a little further away than the Adarns Recreation Centre but it is well worth the trip. Located 13.1 miles (38 minutes) drive from the airport, Piedmont is a great area to walk, jog or do some yoga stretches using Sarah’s videos on the Sanctifly app. If you happen to be in Atlanta on the 4th Monday in the month the park holds free yoga classes! It is a great place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the airport and unwind before a flight.

3-6 hours

Discover an underwater world.

Explore Georgia Aquarium and experience everything from tranquil tropical fish, to bubbly beluga whales, to intelligent dolphin shows. The aquarium is a great place to take a break and relax if you have a long layover. Located 15.5 miles (25 km) drive from the airport.

The aquarium has a good system in place to manage crowds.

De-stress in nature

The Atlanta Botanical Gardens’ display of outdoor plants is a great place to de-stress before a flight. The sea of green creates a tranquil escape and is a world away from the noisy chaos of the airport. The garden includes 30 acres of outdoor gardens, a cafe and an award-winning children’s garden. Located 13.3 miles (21.4 km) from the airport. Click here for direction.

Sample Atlanta’s famous cuisine

Looking to try Atlanta’s famous food?

Atlanta's Southern Food Tour, which covers about two miles (3.2 km) on foot, is roughly 3.5 hours long with stops at seven local eateries. Restaurants include health food stores, which produce healthy juices made from fruits and vegetables and delicious homemade kale chips. Meet the group at Paschal's Restaurant which is approximately a 17-minute (10 miles or 16 km) drive from the airport.

Take a hike!

The Bartram Trail is a popular destination for hikers. The view from the top of the trail is breath taking and many travelers stop halfway to unwind, eat some lunch and take in the amazing scenery. The full trail is estimated to be a 35 mile (56 km) stretch. Bartram Trail is a 2.7-hour (139 miles) drive from the airport. We know that is a long way to go but if you have the time we definitely recommend making the journey!

Bartram trail is a great hike, with beautiful scenery and a waterfall. A world away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
